This recipe is extremely low in Calories compared to the bulk you can take down. 1 lb. of this is about 150 Calories depending on what mushrooms and how much oil you use or add butter.
Ingredients:
Mushrooms (1 lb.) - Portobello or white button
Garlic powder (1 teaspoon) - but let's be real, you're probably gonna use more. I do.
Salt (1 teaspoon)
Optional to taste: small amount of butter (makes it taste buttery.), white wine (adds some fruity complexity), white wine vinegar (lightly sour complex flavor), or Worcestershire sauce (even more savory, steak-like)
-Be sure to account for the Calories added by each which should be clearly marked on the label (ex. butter 100 Calories, can almost double the amount of Calories in this dish, so use sparingly, the flavor is fine without it trust me!)
1. Rinse mushrooms, slice into 1/4s or 1/3s depending on how big they are, or buy pre-sliced.
2. Cooking spray on pan, medium high to high heat, add mushrooms, then sprinkle seasonings over top (garlic and salt to taste, I usually eyeball this but you can be more precise and step it up next time if 1 teaspoon each wasn't enough; if you have high blood pressure, keep the salt low but feel free to go nuts with the garlic powder)
3. Sautee the mushrooms until they start to get soft, usually takes 4-5 minutes, then add your optional wine/W-sauce/butter.
4. Continue to sauté for another 4-5 minutes, mushrooms are usually done when the pan starts to have a layer of liquid and/or the mushrooms are very soft to touch and well browned.
Feel free to eat an entire pound of this and get very full, still clocking fewer Calories than a Snickers bar. Pairs great with a chicken breast (130 Calories/4 ounces) and a large steamer bag of broccoli seasoned well with garlic, salt, pepper, or even sautéed in the pan after the mushrooms are done. This will get you full and keep you full. Satisfies savory, salty. Great option for when you feel very hungry and know you will want a lot of bulk.
